Whales Alive! - Vol. XV No. 2 - April 2006

Save The Oceans - Save The Whales

"SAVE THE OCEANS - SAVE THE WHALES" is the theme of an Earth Day Rally being held on Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 am, at the site of "Conny," the famous 60-foot, ferro-cement, sperm whale model at the Science Center of Connecticut, 950 Trout Brook Drive, West Hartford. Being jointly sponsored by the Cetacean Society International and the Science Center, in addition to speakers and music, the rally is planned to highlight a new book just issued to coincide with Earth Day, 50 Ways to Save the Ocean.

David Helvarg has written the first and only guidebook highlighting the urgency of saving the seas, while offering concrete steps for individuals. The book will offer any reader opportunities to raise awareness of critical ocean and coastal issues, and will inspire people to become marine activists. CSI is pleased to have joined with Inner Ocean Publishing and the Science Center to be a part of the book's national marketing and publicity campaign. There could be no better place and time than at Conny on Earth Day. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the rally. 50 Ways to Save the Ocean can also be purchased via Amazon.com with a portion going to CSI.

Much has happened in the thirty years since Conny was constructed by CSI volunteers in 1976. In many ways the situation facing the oceans and the whales has worsened. Today the plight of the world is truly desperate. The rally offers a concrete way for us to demonstrate we care and to discover what all of us can do now!
